Yann Arthus-Bertrand (Paris, 1946) is a passionate photographer and environmentalist. His mission is to capture the beauty of Earth and raising awareness for the importance of its conservation.
Thanks to this commitment, in 2009 he was officially designated as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
"Earth from Above", "365 Days to Think about our Planet”, "Horses" ... are some examples of his books and exhibitions that reflect his concerns. He also launched a series of documentaries called "Seen from above", broadcasted in 40 countries; and the film "Home", watched by some 450 million people in more than 100 countries.
One of his latest photographic works has been "Catalonia from above" which shows the Catalan lands with his usual magic, capturing the diversity of forms of nature and the landscape from above.
Yann Arthus-Bertrand's photos are like kids to a parent, he can't really pick one over the other when it comes to favourites. His attitude of wanting to cover everything with a kaleidoscopic look, makes it even harder for him to choose just one moment of those captured in Catalonia with his camera. So, at first, he seems to opt for an anecdote, a special and intimate feeling experienced when flying just above a toll. But finally, he opts for the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona. In his own words: "It is obviously a very exploited icon, but for me this building is a unique monument"
